5-13-08

10:27 pm. Company 3 was dispatched to a vehicle accident at the 3800 Block of South Atherton St. Chief 300 "Dry" arrived on scene to find one vehicle off the roadway on its side with one patient out of the vehicle. The occupant had no injuries. Rescue 318's crew went to work controlling hazards and checking the cargo of the vehicle. Due to the nature of the vans use acetylene and oxygen tanks had to be removed from the inside before it could be rolled back on to its wheels. Ambulance 25's crew accessed the patient. State College Police were on scene for investigation and to assist Fire Police with traffic control.

Company 3 Hazmat Training

During the month of April members of "The 3 House" furthered their education with the newest version of the Hazardous Materials Operations Level Training.

 

3-22-08

Company 3 dispatched to a Vehicle Accident with Entrapment near the 1800 Block of Earlystown Rd. Firefighter Spackman arrived on scene to find two vehicles with 1 patient entrapped in critical condition. And a second patient with minor injuries in the second vehicle. Chief 300 " Dry " arrived on scene and took command. Rescue 318's crew popped the driver side door and removed the patient. Engine 310's crew provided fire protection and assisted the rescue crew with hazard control. Company 3 Fire Police handled the roadway closure. Centre Lifelink E.M.S. Transported both patients to the hospital. The roadway remained closed for several hours to allow State College Police to do their investigation.

At 1:41 pm. Company 3 was dispatched to a 2 Vehicle Accident with unknown injuries. Chief 300 who was already in the area arrived on scene and found a Pick-up Truck and a PT Cruiser to be on the roadway with 2 possible minor injuries in the Cruiser. The driver of the truck was not injured. Upon the arrival of the ambulance both of the occupants in the car self extricated. They were both taken by Centre Lifelink E.M.S. to Mount Nittany Medical Center. Rescue 318's crew checked for hazards on both vehicles and assisted with clean-up. State College Police handled traffic control and the investigation.

 

2-25-08

Companies 3 and 5 dispatched to a Dwelling Fire reported to be a grease fire on the stove. Chief 300 "Dry"arrived on scene to find a well involved kitchen fire. Engine 310 arrived on scene took a hydrant and sent a crew of 2 along with Chief 304 "Weyant" in with an attack line. Truck 516 and Engine 510 came on scene with in minutes of 310. The Truck crew assisted the interior crew from 310. 510 established a second water supply and then pulled a second hand line from Engine 310. 510's crew assisted with knockdown of the fire along with salvage and overhaul. Rescue 318 and Engine 514 were also on the scene. Companies 3 and 5 Fire Police handled traffic control. State College Police along with the Centre Region Fire Marshal are investigating the incident.

 

2-10-08

Around 12:45 pm. Chief 202 called Centre County Dispatch by radio reporting that he had come across a Multi-Vehicle Accident with a Fire on Rt. 322. The Chief took a quick assessment and found 3 patients with minor injuries one tractor trailer and eight other vehicles were involved in the crash. 202 extinguished the fire. Company 3 and multiple ambulance companies were dispatched to the scene. Due to white out conditions travel to the scene was very difficult. Chief 303 "Asendorf" arrived on scene and took the command. Rescue 318's crew arrived on scene and went to work with secondary patient assessment and fluid control of the vehicles. Engine 310 came to the scene but then was quickly redirected to a second call in the district. The roadway had to be shut down for several hours while the vehicles were cleared from the area. Ambulances from Centre Lifelink E.M.S. and Penn State University Ambulance Service handled patient care and transport.

 

 

2-10-08

Dwelling Fire

8:20 AM Companies 3, 5, 4, and 8 were dispatched for a Dwelling Fire at 1631 W. Branch Rd. Chief 303 and Truck 516 arrived on scene to find a malfunctioning furnace. The Truck crew handled further investigation and ventilation of the structure. Engine 310 and 311 staged and were placed available. All other companies were placed available.

Vehicle Accident w/ Entrapment and Fire

Company 3 was dispatched to a Vehicle Accident with Fire and Entrapment. Chief 300 arrived on scene to find a fully involved Truck Tractor and one SUV with severe damage. Both of the occupants in the truck escaped before it caught fire. The driver of the SUV passed away before the arrival of the company. Engine 310's crew went to work extinguishing the fire along with the help of Tanker 319 and Rescue 318's crews. Rescue 518 "Alpha" also responded on the call but were released shortly after their arrival on the scene. Companies 3 and 5 Fire Police closed down the roadway until the arrival of DOT. The roadway remained closed for several hours during the investigation by State College Police. Centre Lifelink E.M.S. handled patient care and transport to Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Snowmobile Accident

During the Banquet Company 3 was dispatched to a snowmobile accident around the 1000 Block of Boal Ave. Chief 300 " Dry " responded to the scene as well as Engine 413. Upon his arrival 300 held the response to 413 only. Minor injuries were reported.

" The 3 House "

Holds its Annual Banquet at the Elk's Country Club in Boalsburg

Company 3 members their spouses and honored guests came together for dinner and an award presentation. The night started out with a social hour. Dinner was served and then various awards were given out to honor members service to the company. After the awards presentation a 2007 Year in Review Video was shown. A DJ was on hand for dancing and social time until 11pm.

This years Award winners included: Rookie of the Year - Tyler "Chipmunk "McClellan, Firefighter of the Year - Van Winter and the Fire Company Service Award- Teresa Weyant

Years of Service Awards were presented to Dave Geiser and Mike Waltz for 5 Years of Service, Gary Billett for 10 Years of Service, Ben Smith for 15 Years of Service, Rob Gordon and Clay Phillips for 20 Years of Service. Joe Davidson was brought into the Life Member Club for 25 years of Dedicated Service.

Awards were also given to the outgoing Officers from 2007. Van Winter - Chief, Norm Spackman - Assistant Chief, Greg Alters - Assistant Chief and Safety Officer and Dave "Davo" Geiser - Fire Police Chief.

 

A special Award this year was given to all of the past Chiefs of the Boalsburg Fire Company. Anyone who has held the position of Chief 300 was given a special Award that consisted of a plaque stating their years as Chief and adorned with a Gold Bugle.

A special Thank You goes out to the Centre Hall and Alpha Fire Companies for covering our calls during the banquet. Their help allows our members to take some time to just relax and enjoy the festivities. Centre Hall provided an Engine for stand-by at station 3. And the Alpha's provided Rescue stand-by from their mid town station. Thanks again!

Vehicle Accident w/ Unknown Injuries

The accident was reported to be at the intersection of Jacks Mill Dr. and Boal Ave. Chief 301 (Neff) went responding and reported that the exact location was just after the bridge on 322 at the Boal Ave exit. 318 arrived on scene and terminated battery cables and 2 of the crew members did traffic control. The box was placed available with the exception of fire police after about 20 mins.
